The Haunting Scent of Poppies, by Victoria Williamson
I was sent this book as part of TheWriteReads Book Tour - and what a gorgeous little parcel!
This is a tiny book, seemingly a nice little historic ghost story… but it quickly gets under your skin. ‘Haunting’ is the right word, as the unpleasant protagonist gets more than he bargained for when his sticky fingers grab the wrong treasure.
A quick, engaging read with evocative imagery that really conveys the sensory awfulness of war. Under 100 pages, but it’ll stick with me.
The perfect gift for a book-lover - especially MR James or Susan Hill fans
